Caesar's Arrival: Alexandria's Tide Turns or Trickles?

- a long, long time ago.
Salve Rome! Our beloved Caesar has just set foot in Alexandria! In case you've been too busy with your daily ludi or fighting for the last loaf of bread in the Agora, it's time you got wind of the biggest news that's hit the Empire.
Now, the question on everyone's lips is: will Caesar's arrival turn the tide for Alexandria or are we just going to witness a ripple before all goes back to the way it was?
Let’s be real here: if Caesar’s got his toga all in a twist about bringing change, he's got to do more than just parade around Alexandria like he's on a Roman holiday. We, in our resplendent city of Rome, know all too well how Caesar’s promises can sometimes end up like a bad performance at the Colosseum - lots of promise, but not enough substance.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Caesar like any other Roman citizen who enjoys not being thrown to the lions. But, let's not forget, this is the same Caesar who gave us the Julian calendar. Now, I can't be the only one who still can't figure out when to celebrate Saturnalia under his new system.
So, Alexandria, you might be in for a change, but whether it's for the better is yet to be seen. Perhaps you'll get lucky and he'll only change your calendar, but remember, you might end up celebrating your New Year in summer.
His arrival might be the best thing for Alexandria since the invention of the aqueduct. Or it could just be another trickle in the vast Nile of political theater.
So, here's my two denarii for the day - let's not be swayed by the grandeur of Caesar's arrival. Instead, let's keep our eyes on the praemium: a better society, a fairer system, a Rome (or an Alexandria) that works for everyone, not just the ones donning the laurel wreaths.
#Ad Meliora, Rome.
