If you hadn't been hiding under a rock for the past few months, you'd know of our fearless leader Valens' latest caper. Oh yes, he's at it again, shaking up the Empire faster than a gladiator can swing a sword. This time it's no less than a religious coup, and the venerable Bishop Athanasius finds himself on the sharp end of Valens' displeasure.

Athanasius, Out You Go!

Athanasius, love him or hate him, exiled by Valens. Athanasius, the defender of Nicaea, the champion of Trinitarianism, ousted like an unwelcome guest at a Bacchanalian feast. This isn't the first time he's been shown the door, of course. Much like bad fish sauce, the good bishop seems to have a knack for coming back. But this time, Valens seems determined to ensure he stays away.

Arians, Welcome In!

To add insult to injury, it isn't just the good, old-fashioned Trinitarianism that's being shown the door. It's a whole new sect of Arians that Valens has decided to embrace. This, my fellow Romans, is akin to inviting the Gauls for dinner and giving them the keys to the city.

What's next, Valens? Replacing Latin with Greek? Ceding Rome to the barbarians? Or perhaps replacing the Senate with a band of soothsayers and fortune tellers?
